Mastering the Basics: Adding Integers Explained

Mastering the Basics: Adding Integers Explained

The addition of two integers involves combining two whole numbers to find their sum. This arithmetic operation results in a new integer, which is the total of the two numbers being added.

In this process, the values of the integers are added together, regardless of their signs, to produce a final result.

Addition is a fundamental mathematical operation that is widely used in various fields, including mathematics, science, engineering, and everyday life.

Addition of Two Integers with same sign:

“First add absolute value of given integers and put the same sign before the result”

Ex:

-3 – 2 = – 5; – 5 – 6= – 11; -12-3=-15

3+2=5; 25+7=32; 51+3=54

Addition of Two Integers with Different sings:

“Subtract smaller integer absolute value from bigger Integers absolute value and put bigger Integer’s sign before the result”

Ex: – 3+2=-1; 3 – 5= – 2; – 5+11= 6
